Since starting my job at the Cancer clinic in February I've had limited time for leisure activities such as blog writing. So in effort to recap since then here goes.
Alex graduated from preschool in May with flying colors. He amazed us with his ability to learn and retain information. Though we're still working to help him learn many of the letters of the alphabet, we're happy to report he's mastered colors, numbers up to 30, shapes, writing his name, recognizing the seasons, days of the week, recite our home address, and he is our nutrition expert, (after learning about nutrition he told Ry he could no longer make him Macaroni and cheese, or Ramen noodles for lunch. And the other day at the store he saw donuts and said we can't have those their "naughty".)
He's excited for kindergarten or "big boy school" this fall. I on the other hand am not sure I'm ready for him to be in kindergarten. I'm going to be one of "those mother's", you know the ones that have a harder time parting with their child at the classroom door than the child does. But at least he'll know he's loved. Right?
In December Alex knocked his two top front teeth out after falling while jumping from chair to ottoman. Then a month later he pulled his two bottom front teeth out while lying in bed. When I questioned him as to why he simply stated that he wanted the tooth fairy to come visit him again so he could get more money. He was crushed when I informed him that it's common knowledge that the tooth fairy doesn't give you money when you intentionally pull your teeth out for money. He was saddened by this as he said he'd planned to pull two more the next night.
Last week he and ry payed me a surprise visit at work. Alex walked into my office, opened his mouth wide, and told me I needed to feel something. After seven months of me worrying, and wondering if he'd ever have front teeth again his front teeth were finally poking through. He proudly told me that he could once again chew apples, and didn't need us to cut them up ever again.
In June Alex celebrated his sixth birthday, his birthday was on Wednesday and we had a lot going so Ry and I didn't tell him it was his birthday until Sunday when we had a small party with Aunt Eliza, Uncle Eric, Jill and Mark Murdoch.
This spring we planted our first garden. We're using the square foot method and so far have pretty good results. We've harvested green beans, tomatoes, yellow squash, zucchini, peppers, lettuce, Swiss chard, and onions. The corn and melons should be ready in the next couple weeks. It's fun to see how excited Alex gets every time something new pops up.
Ry's working hard with my Dad to implement Dad's non-profit company the Vital Age. They should be in the beta testing stage soon. In September he'll continue to further his education with real estate and investing courses. Then in November he'll take the tests to become a real estate broker. He's also been working on the yard, fence, and shed lately. It's nice having a handy guy around that can fix and build anything.
I work full time as a pt. advocate, and finally feel I'm getting the hang of it. Other than getting use to long hours, and dealing with learning curves that come with new jobs I really enjoy it. I'm once again attempting to teach my self to play the guitar, and am determined to do it this time. This fall Ry's promised to get me a new camera so I can work on my photography skills. I'm excited for this as I've been wanting a nice camera for years.
